International Color Posters
Logo and corporate identity design for a commercial large format silkscreener and digital printer. The family-owned business had originated in France and moved to the U.S. over a generation ago.
The owner's father started the business printing show posters. He also had done the original logo design that had been evolved on the current collateral. As this was a logo redesign, the client had originally thought of evolving their current look, but later felt that a fresh start would be best.
He and his staff wanted to convey that they had much more diversity than was their reputation in the printing business. They wanted to showcase their newly refined digital capabilities that can output and produce building wraps, vehicle graphics and POS materials.

I received some of the current collateral materials from the client and also did some additional research of their competitors. My initial impression of the current logo was that it was rather dated looking and was not communicating well. Although they had a solid reputation within the advertising and printing worlds, the logo and their materials did not speak to potential new clients as a current and up-to-the-minute leader in large format printing technology. It was time for something new.

These concepts tried to create a sense of color, dynamics and technology. The use of the word 'west' was to help prepare for further expansion of the company in the near future with a location on the east coast. I also tried several different iconic elements to create some large scale impact. Upon review by the client, it was agreed to explore these two directions and hopefully make a selection in the next round.

There were some additional suggestions to make direction #1 have a more Southern California look, but found that that may have been rather esoteric. Multiple typeface adjustments were tried, as well as showing how the logo may look on a business card would help the client see it's application potential.

Direction #2's concept was to show different iconic textures in the corner box to represent the different types of printing and technology the ICP can offer, each with their own corresponding colors.

Fortunately, the client had made the leap during the process and was feeling very confident with the new logo treatment. Because they are in the printing business, he wanted to have vivid, pure colors to use in the stationery and collateral work. These four logo/icon combinations were selected for the new identity. To coordinate, there were four coordinating patterns developed to work with each logo.

From here, the logos are applied to assorted materials for a wide
variety of applications. Everything was considered from building exterior and signage, to website and advertising design. Here are some of the individual pieces.
